                            :HISTORY:
Nalgonda district has been popular since ancient times and attracted many scholars from far and near. Noted centres of learning such as Vijayapuri, Pillalamarri, Kolanpaka, Panugal and Rachakonda made Nalgonda district the destination of literary pursuits in the past. The various inscriptions found in this district testify to the patronage which the western Chalukyas, Kakatiyas and the Recherla Chiefs of Rachakonda and Devarakonda gave to literary activity. The Prasasti Kavyas of epigraphically poets give us an insight into the literary traditions prevalent in those days.

The court poets of the Recherla Chiefs, Visvesvara and his disciple Pusapati Naga Nadhudu belonged to the later half of the fourteenth century A.D. Visvervara was the author of Chamatkara Chandrika. Pusapati Naga Nadhudu rendered Sri Vishnupuranam into Telugu Koravi Satyanarayana was another poet of the same century who belonged to Rachakonda in the distict. He wrote "Ramayanamu" Singana of Erchur in the district, who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries A.D. was the author of the famous Kuvalayasva Charita. He also has the credit of translating the seventh chapter of Baharatam into Telugu. The prominent literary celebrities of the 17th century A.D. are Ponvgoti Jagannadha Rao, the author of Kumudavalti Vilasamu and Karpuram Krishnamacharyulu, the author of Bhagavadgita, a Dvipada Kavya
